Mapping and visualization of literature in distance education: A scientometric analysis based on citespace

Abstract

Distance education (DE) has recently become a noteworthy study topic in the public education system. From the Web of Science database, 5719 articles discussing DE and published in the period of 2011-2023 were acquired. By analyzing the overall characteristics, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence of the selected articles, which utilized Cite Space software, the history of DE could be systematically grasped, thereby reasonably predict the emphases of future development. We found that the number of papers relevant to DE had been rapidly growing since 2018. USA, China, and Turkey are the top three countries where most authors or teams were located. The map of keyword cooccurrence showed that the previous DE research mainly focused on telelearning, adult learning, and distributed learning environment. The recent burst words emerging are used to determine that distance education will continue to be studied in the field with high explosive keywords such as visual tracking, technology acceptance model, and user interface. This will provide suggestions and directions for the development of distance education.

Дистанційна освіта (DE) останнім часом стала важливою темою для вивчення в системі державної освіти. З бази даних Web of Science було отримано 5719 статей, які обговорюють DE і були опубліковані в період 2011-2023 років. Шляхом аналізу загальних характеристик, спільного цитування та спільного використання ключових слів вибраних статей, які використовували програмне забезпечення Cite Space, можна систематично осягнути історію DE, таким чином обґрунтовано передбачити акценти майбутнього розвитку. Ми виявили, що з 2018 року кількість статей, які стосуються DE, стрімко зростає. США, Китай і Туреччина є трьома країнами, де розташовано найбільше авторів або команд. Карта спільного використання ключових слів показала, що попереднє дослідження DE в основному зосереджувалося на теленавчанні, навчанні дорослих і розподіленому навчальному середовищі. Нещодавні вибухи слів використовуються для визначення того, що дистанційна освіта продовжуватиме вивчатися в цій галузі за допомогою вибухонебезпечних ключових слів, таких як візуальне відстеження, модель прийняття технологій та інтерфейс користувача. Це дасть пропозиції та напрямки розвитку дистанційної освіти.
